Best places to play golf abroad

If you love golf and you love going on holiday, playing a few rounds while you’re abroad is a great way to make your time away even more enjoyable. Luckily for all golf enthusiasts out there, the world is full of fantastic golfing destinations. Here are a few of our favourites.

Portugal’s southern Algarve region is packed full of excellent golf courses. Just a two and a half hour flight from the UK, the Algarve enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year. This makes it the perfect destination for a winter golf break. Another great thing about the Algarve is that it’s very family friendly. If you’re travelling with your partner and children, you can leave them by the pool or at the beach while you head off into the countryside to enjoy a round or two in the sun.

If you want to go somewhere a little more exotic for your golfing break, Bermuda is the perfect choice. Just under seven hours from London by plane, this small island is home to a great choice of beautiful courses and a fantastic climate.

Although you may not be guaranteed any sunshine on an Irish golfing holiday, you are guaranteed beautiful scenery. Come rain or shine, the Irish countryside is absolutely spectacular and you’ll be able to enjoy sweeping views with every round. Just make sure you pack some warm clothes and waterproofs as it can rain for up to 225 days a year in the Emerald Isle.

There are high quality golf courses dotted all over Spain, but most can be found in and around the Costa del Sol. Like the Algarve in Portugal, the Costa del Sol is warm and sunny for most of the year. This makes it the perfect choice for golfers looking to escape the cold, grey winters of northern Europe for sunnier climes.

Florida enjoys hot and sunny weather almost every day of the year. Although you may have to dodge the occasional hurricane or hungry alligator, the region is a great destination for golfers who want to improve their game. If you’re travelling with children, they can have fun in the state’s many theme parks and attractions while you play round after round on Florida’s manicured courses.

Playing golf while you’re away on holiday is a great way to get to know a new country and make your break more enjoyable. Start planning a golfing break now and you could soon be looking forward to an active holiday of your own.
